Rural Fire & EMS Mercy Care Fees

Sand Springs EMS Program

The City of Sand Springs has established a program under the Fire Department to sustain Emergency Medical Services (EMS) in our community.

This service is a tiered system, meaning the Sand Springs Fire Department first responds with Mercy Regional EMS to provide high-quality care.   The Sand Springs EMS Program provides the following:

  •  Annual subsidy fee
  • 3 dedicated Mercy ambulances permanently stationed in Sand Springs.
  •  Mercy ALS (Advanced Life Support)  ambulances with a minimum of 1 paramedic on each unit.
  • 3  Sand Springs Fire Engine/ Ladder, each staffed with a minimum of 3 to 4 EMT-B ( Emergency Medical Technicians Basic Level)  and 1 EMT-Advanced level fire medics for first response.

Mercy Care

The Mercy Care program provides you and all permanent members of your household with EMS ambulance benefits through Mercy.  With the charge for ambulance service costing an average of $1,500 per call before insurance, it's easy to see the benefit should you or your family ever need an ambulance anywhere in the service area.

Mercy Care provides coverage in two ways:

  • Residents will pay no out-of-pocket costs after a claim is submitted to their health insurance for any residual costs not paid by their insurance provider.
  • Residents who have no insurance coverage will receive a 60% reduction in the total bill through Mercy Care.

Fee Schedule

  • Sand Springs residential accounts, inside city limits: $3.25
  • Sand Springs residential accounts, outside city limits: $5.00
  • All other areas that Mercy responds to outside city limits, which are served by Rock Fire Department, Green Country Fire, and Keystone Fire, will pay $5.00

All customers will be automatically billed through their water utility bill.  The COSS EMS/Mercy Care program is a public utility, and customers do not have the option to opt out.

Sand Springs Rural Fire Subscription

Households located outside the Sand Springs’ city limits but within the 64-square-mile area served by Sand Springs firefighters, are automatically enrolled in the optional Rural Fire Subscription program. For the $5.00 monthly charge, rural residents will not pay any out-of-pocket costs should Sand Springs firefighters be called to a fire at your home or on your land. The charge for a rural house fire call averages $2,000. Homeowners insurance policies only pay about a quarter of that amount. The Rural Fire Subscription assures that homeowners will not be faced with the remaining costs.

Exercise Your Options

The value of the Sand Springs Rural Fire Subscription cannot be stressed enough.  The benefit derived from these fees helps the Sand Springs Fire Department deliver a superior level of service our citizens deserve.  If you have further questions regarding this program or Mercy Care, please visit the Fire & EMS Mercy Care FAQs page or contact Fire Administration.  Should you still wish to discontinue the Rural Fire program, you can find the opt-out form below.  The opt-out form should be received between August 1st and no later than the last business day of August and will become effective during the first utility billing cycle of September.
