SH-97 closed near Arkansas River bridge in Sand Springs Dec. 15-22
The City of Sand Springs was informed by ODOT that Sand Springs Railway scheduled a highway road closure on State Highway 97, December 15th- 22nd. All lanes of north and southbound SH-97/Wilson Ave. will be closed between Huskey Avenue and Main Street, just north of the Arkansas River bridge, in Sand Springs from, 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15 through 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 22 for railroad repairs by Sand Springs Railway Company. Traffic signals will be modified to prepare for heavier traffic in the area during the closure and can detour using SH-51, SH-151, and US-412. Traffic may also use local roads such as Main Street just North of the bridge, as it will remain accessible.
“The City and ODOT collaborated to do this closure around the Christmas Break time for some of the schools that have traffic going North and Southbound on Highway 97,” said City Manager, Mike Carter, at last month’s City Council meeting, “We wanted to try and alleviate as much as we could on our citizens.”
