Who We Are
Who We Are - The Sand Springs Cultural and Historical Museum
The Sand Springs Cultural and Historical Museum Trust Authority was created in December 1990. The Museum is a public trust. The Trustees are appointed by and are responsible to the Sand Springs City Council.
The Sand Springs Museum Association is a membership organization. Its purpose is to encourage community involvement in the activities of the museum. The Association has an eleven-member board of directors who are elected to two-year terms by Association members at the annual business meeting. The Board of Directors meets monthly. The directors also serve on one or more the following committees: Education, Special Events, and Membership.
The purpose of the Sand Springs Cultural and Historical Museum is to collect, preserve and interpret information and materials pertaining to the prehistory, natural history, history and art of the Sand Springs region. Objects relating to this region may be donated to the museum’s permanent collection, or loaned for temporary exhibition. Objects in the collection are cared for according to professional standards, and records are carefully kept.
In February 1992, the Museum opened in the Page Memorial Library. At first the museum consisted of an Exhibit Hall on the ground level floor. The people of Tulsa County voted a bond issue to build a new library in downtown Sand Springs. The museum began using the entire Page Memorial Library building. The building was constructed in 1929 and dedicated in 1930. Built in the Art Deco architectural style, the building is listed on the State and National Register of Historic Places in 1999.
