Fireworks Permit No Longer Needed in City of Sand Springs

Sand Springs, OK - The City of Sand Springs will no longer require permits to discharge consumer grade fireworks inside city limits. This change comes after the Sand Springs City Council voted on Ordinance No. 1422 to remove the permit requirement from the City Code of Ordinances.

While permits are no longer required to discharge consumer grade fireworks in city limits, some previous rules remain in place:

  • Individuals may discharge consumer grade fireworks only on July 3, from 6-11 p.m., and July 4, from 11 a.m.- 11 p.m..
  • Fireworks must be discharged on a noncombustible surface.
  • The adult in charge of the fireworks use must be physically present and within 100 feet of the point of discharge.
  • Any user of fireworks is responsible for cleaning up any debris caused by any person discharging fireworks.
  • No fireworks can be discharged from any park or city property.
  • No fireworks can be discharged on streets in excess of 26 feet in width, or on streets designated as collector or arterial roadways.
  • Commercial grade fireworks and public displays still require permits.

“As a City, we hope the removal of fireworks permits will allow our citizens to celebrate the July 4th holiday without the added financial burden of fireworks permits. We urge everyone to celebrate safely, enjoy time with friends and family and remember to be courteous to your neighbors,” said Sand Springs Fire Marshal Mike Nobles.

Although fireworks can be enjoyed by citizens, fire officials urge residents to remember that live fireworks often frighten and stress animals. Officials ask that citizens take a moment to secure their pets to reduce the chances of animals running away.

For further information about fireworks regulations and safety, call the Sand Springs Fire Marshal’s Office at 918-246-2548, extension 2551.
