[ARCHIVED] Sand Springs Residents Vote In Favor Of Parks, Reject Public Safety

Sand Springs voters were divided in Tuesday’s General Obligation Bond Election. While Question 1 for a new Public Safety Facility was rejected, Question 2 for municipal building renovations and Question 3 for park improvements were approved by voters.

Question 2, totaling $735,000 was slated to renovate the City’s Municipal Building and demolish Fire Station 1. Since Question 1 did not pass, these projects will be put on hold for the time being.

Question 3, totaling $2,365,000 includes two new splash parks, replacement of the River City Park playground, two new concession buildings at River City Park, various neighborhood park improvements, golf course repairs, Museum maintenance and work at the Keystone Ancient Forest.

Parks Director Grant Gerondale was pleased with the election results, "We're grateful to the community for their support of parks through last night's affirming vote. The GO bond funds will be put in place very soon as our staff and Park Board members begin to finalize our initial planning work. This is a real win/win for our kids, families and for the entire Sand Springs community."

City Manager Rocky Rogers stated, “We appreciate the opportunity to bring the needs of the City of Sand Springs before our residents. Even though not all the proposed projects were approved, we appreciate the support of our Parks projects and will continue to assess the City’s needs to improve infrastructure and facilities.”
