The City of Sand Springs has approved a contract with Mercy Regional EMS for ambulance services, marking a significant change for city water customers and others within the Sand Springs Fire Department's service area. The Sand Springs City Council officially approved the new partnership during their October 28, 2024, meeting, where city staff also outlined a detailed timeline for transitioning from EMSA to Mercy. Mercy Regional EMS is expected to begin operations in Sand Springs by mid-January 2025.
City Manager Mike Carter stated, “We have appreciated EMSA’s service over the years, but to ensure the highest levels of care for our citizens, Mercy will provide at least three full-time ambulances to our community. Additionally, by contract all ambulances will be staffed at the paramedic level, providing our residents with rapid access to advanced life support capabilities.”
During the transition, Sand Springs wants to reassure all citizens and surrounding areas currently served by EMSA that there will be no disruption in service. The City is working closely with both EMSA and Mercy to facilitate a smooth transition, including maintaining ambulance billing through Sand Springs utility bills and continuing services similar to EMSA Total Care under a new name (Mercy Care) starting in 2025.
Sand Springs Fire Chief Jeremy Wade remarked, “EMSA has been a cornerstone of our community since 1985, serving Sand Springs for nearly 40 years. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to EMSA for their steadfast dedication to our residents’ safety. As neighboring cities, Sand Springs and Tulsa will continue a strong collaborative relationship with EMSA.”
The City is committed to keeping the community informed and engaged throughout this transition. Residents are encouraged to stay updated by visiting www.SandSpringsOK.org/ems for more information, an FAQ document, and future opportunities for questions.
Together, we look forward to enhancing emergency medical services in our community.
