The City of Sand Springs is proud to announce the next step in transforming its historic downtown with the kickoff of Phase 2 and 3 of the Downtown Streetscape Enhancements project, funded through the 2022 General Obligation (GO) Bond program. The enhancements will bring a fresh, modernized look and improved accessibility to The Box District. The project is scheduled to begin on May 1, weather dependent, and is expected to take approximately five months (150 contract days) to complete. Click the video for more information!
This phase of the project includes a variety of streetscape improvements designed to create a safer, more inviting pedestrian experience. Features will include:
- Decorative lighting
- Midblock crossings
- Curb extensions and bump-outs
- New paving
- Plantings and landscaping
- Site furnishings
- Upgrades for ADA compliance.
This next phase builds on the success of Phase 1, which was completed in 2023, and will enhance the downtown area where the annual Herbal Affair Festival is held every April. Construction will focus on the following areas: Broadway Avenue from Garfield to Main, Main Street from Broadway to 2nd Street, and Main Street from 2nd Street to McKinley Ave. There will be periodic temporary changes to traffic and parking as part of the work in the area. The City appreciates the public’s patience during construction and encourages residents and visitors to continue supporting downtown businesses throughout the process.
